Chile : Curico Valley

General Information: Curico Valley is a wine-producing region in central Chile. It is divided into two sections: an eastern half, located towards the slopes of the Andes, and a western half, closer to the Pacific Ocean. Both halves are roughly 115 miles (185km) south of the Chilean capital Santiago, located at a latitude of 35 degrees south - Curico shares this proximity to the equator with the southern tip of Spain.

Climate:Moderate Mediterranean climate with hot summer days and cool humid nights. The winter is influenced by the high pressure area of the Pacific that experiences with 720 mm more rainfall yearly than the Rapel Valley.

Soil:Soils are flat, eroded, rich in minerals and highly permeable. In higher locations, soils are sandy and stony. Many irrigation canals cross the valley and are fed by the Rivers Teno and Lontue.

Grapes:Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay.
